The Beebalm is a herbaceous perennial reaching 2 to 5 feet in height and 2 to 3 feet in width. This fast growing Florida native wildflower has a dense, upright spreading growth habit. The branched stems bear lance-shaped to oblong leaves with jagged edges and a fragrance that resembles thyme. Uniquely characteristic, the Beebalm is known for its small, pink speckled flowers that grow in elongated spikes of dense clusters. Blooms typically appear in late spring through fall attracting a huge variety of pollinating insects, including bees and butterflies. Beebalm grows best in full sun or partial shade and well drained sandy soil. It is easy to grow, drought tolerant and can generally withstand exposure to freezing temperatures. Known for its long bloom time, the Beebalm is a nice addition to a small garden as a background plant due to its height. It forms nice, attractive clumps when spaced 2 to 3 feet apart. This native wildflower will appear bushier when trimmed in early summer.
