The Lanceleaf Coreopsis is a herbaceous perennial and a species of the Florida state wildflower. These bright, cheerful flowers resemble daisies with a dense head of yellow-orange disk florets. Spring through summer flowers are yellow and about 1 inch in diameter. Lanceleaf Coreopsis grows in small clump-like stalks with most of its grass-green leaves concentrated at the base of the plant. Reaching approximately 2 feet in height, these sunny wildflowers are a beacon to butterflies, bees and birds. Lanceleaf Coreopsis flourishes in full sun and moist to well-drained soil. Once established, it will tolerate drier conditions. These hardy plants stand up to drought, heat and humidity, as well as the occasional freeze or frozen dew on its leaves. This Florida native is a great choice for garden and larger landscape settings. Its attraction to a variety of pollinators makes the Lanceleaf Coreopsis a nice addition to butterfly or wildflower gardens. In the right conditions, it will grow in large colonies creating a blanket of cheerful, sunny yellow. A meadow or mass planting plays up to this stunning visual effect.
