The Bluff Oak tree is relatively small for an oak tree with a mature height between 60 to 75 feet. This Florida native tree has brown flat leaves that drop for part of the year and produces brown acorns. The leaves do not change color in the fall. Branches are well spaced along the trunk and require very little pruning. It grows best in full or partial sun and is not tolerant to salt wind or direct salt spray and found in sand and loam soil environments. Bluff Oak attracts a variety of butterflies making this a great pollinator tree. You will find the brown duskywing butterfly, the beautiful white-M hairstreak butterfly with its noteworthy silver-colored underside, and the small, grey hairstreak butterfly fluttering around this unique oak tree. The Bluff Oak also attracts a variety of wildlife that like to eat the acorns: birds, squirrels, and deer. Due to its smaller size, it is recommended to be used as a single focal point or planted in a grove. The Bluff Oak tree is great for a street without a sidewalk and is a wonderful provider of shade.
