The Dry Twinflower is a Florida Native wildflower with a moderate growth rate and narrow green leaves. This long-lived perennial grows more broadly than tall, reaching a maximum height of 1 feet. Dominant in the winter, small delicate flowers bloom from spring to fall with tubular lavender flowers marked with darker purple streaks. Leaves will turn purple red once cold weather hits Dry Twinflower can grow in full sun and partial shade environments. It is highly tolerant to well-drained dry, sandy soils that are acidic to slightly alkaline. However, exposure to salt wind may burn leaves and it has a low tolerance for salt water flooding. This Florida native wildflower is extremely easy to care for as a groundcover and replaces the need to mow, water or fertilize a lawn. When planting, they should be spaced closely together to provide effective groundcover. It is ideally suited for small spaces and is pollinator friendly attracting birds, bees, and the common Buckeye butterfly. The Dry Twinflower is an excellent, low maintenance choice for an attractive residential landscape.
