Viburnum Obovatum ā€˜Mrs. Schiller’s Delight’ is a dwarf cultivar of Walter’s Viburnum. It was introduced by Steve Reifler for its compact, dwarf habit. This Florida native shrub will grow to about 3 to 5 feet wide and only 2 to 5 feet tall. They have small, narrow, glossy leaves that grow in opposite directions giving this shrub its dense form. Typically in late February to mid March, this beautiful plant covers itself with clusters of small, white delicate flowers. Following its flowers are red fruits. These fruits eventually turn black and are a favorite of birds. The Mrs. Schiller’s Delight are slow growers but once established in the landscape, they have proven to be exceptionally drought tolerant. They grow best in full sun but will also grow in shadier locations, they just won’t flower as much. Mrs. Schiller’s can be used as a low growing shrub for foundation plantings or in masses as the middle or foreground plant. The small textured leaves and four-season appeal make it an eye-catching and low maintenance landscape selection.
